CAMPING AT THE KGHR

Camping is available at Kilkivan Showgrounds from Friday 10 April 2026 6.00am to Sunday 12 April 2026 8.00pm.

CAMPING COST

Camping is $30 per person for all persons 13yo & over for the entire weekend.  Children 12yo & under are FREE. 

A camping ticket enables you to camp at Thornside (Widgee) on the Friday night at Kilkivan on Saturday night if you plan to do the Thornside to Kilkivan Ride.

GENERATOR USE: We have a STRICT POLICY for generators to ensure the comfort and amenity of all campers.

You are welcome to use a generator between the hours of 5.00am and 11.00pm ONLY.

Failure to observe this request may result in you being asked to leave the ground, no refunds will be issued. 

CAMPING FAQS

Yes. Camping at the showgrounds is horse friendly.  You must bring your own horse yards or electric fence.

No. You must bring your own portable yards or electric fencing system.

Yes. The use of generators is allowed, but only between the hours of 5.00am and 11.00pm. This rule will be strictly enforced.

Campfires are allowed, but not encouraged. If you have a fire it must be raised off the ground and in a brazier, portable fire pit, or an OzPig-type stove. Fires must not be left unattended. The SES and Rural Fire Service will be on site and may ask people to extinguish a fire if it is not compliant.

Yes. There are taps located all around the showground and all the water is potable. Take the usual hygiene and health precautions when watering horses at an event. Don’t share buckets with horses that are not your own and avoid using communal watering troughs where possible.

Yes, there are a limited number of toilets and showers for campers to use. We will have some porta-loos situated around the grounds for your convenience.

There is not much shade at the showgrounds. You should be prepared to bring a marquee or have some sort of awning for shade and/or protection from the elements.

Please observe the signs warning about falling limbs from some of the old gum trees on the site. These trees are dangerous and you should not put yourselves or your horses at risk.

There are many flat sites, but the ground is not particularly even. Some of the flat sites are prone to being boggy if we receive a lot of rain prior to or at the time of the event. 

Yes, you can camp if you don’t have horses. 

Kilkivan Great Horse Ride & Kilkivan Country Festival is an annual event held in Kilkivan, South-East Queensland. The event is organised by the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Inc., a not-for-profit community organisation run by volunteers.
